What are the symptoms of bone bruising of the tibia?

Bone bruising of the tibia often results in pain and swelling. At the moment of injury, sharp pain is typically felt due to stimulation of the nerve fibres within the periosteum. While this initial pain may ease within a few minutes, it can return as bleeding develops beneath the periosteum. A visible, painful lump—or multiple lumps—may form on the front of the shin.
